Six miles outside of Lansing, a person's perspective on state government changes.  Faced with soaring gasoline and home heating costs, increasing prices for medical care and even basic grocery items, a growing high school drop-out rate and a lagging economy; what often appear to be good ideas in the halls of the State Capitol are viewed by most Michigan residents as unnecessary government interference in their lives.  We need strong, effective leadership to address these problems.

Four year ago, I ran for office to work with northern Michigan residents and their local officials to chart a new course for the region's future.  Along the way, I have cast some tough votes and stuck my neck out when others suggested I back down.  But I didn't run for the State House to make my place on the reception circuit, to play it safe while looking for my next job in Lansing or to be an obedient solider for any political party or special interest group..

Now, as I run for my third and last term, I recognize that my faith in our future has been worth the struggle.  With a number of our economic development projects accomplished and others well on their way, northern Michigan is moving forward and I welcome you to join me in setting its next destination.  Thank you for your past support and I would again be honored to have your vote during this final re-election campaign to serve as your state representative.
